Wilmslow Rifle Club
The Club

Wilmslow Rifle Club traces its history back to 1958 when it was called The Great Rex Field and Stream Sporting Club, quite a mouthful. They affiliated to the NSRA, however they must have had problems writing all that on the targets because later they changed the name to The Nether Rifle Club, then Wilmslow Rifle and Pistol Club until we ended up with our current name.

A grant for the building of the range was given in 1968, the range was built in 1969 and opened in 1970. Since then three local clubs have closed and merged under the WRC banner.

Recently it has become obvious that the club needed to diversify, however, the prone shooting licence restricted our ability to attract new members. After much deliberation, consultation and calculation, in October 2012 we refurbished the old bullet catcher, built new walls and laid a concrete floor in the range. The intention being to provide a facility for various types of target shooting, including disabled. In Spring 2013 a grant from Wilmslow Town Council provided the funds for a new firing point which can accommodate wheel chairs and other seated disabled shooters as well as the usual prone and standing positions.
